What We Do

Adams Parachute works with local programs and providers to offer free, therapeutic fly fishing programs for individuals recovering from addiction and anyone supporting them. Fly fishing offers a unique opportunity to find peace and healing in nature, and is backed by research showing that it enhances mindfulness skills, and rebuilds one’s sense of purpose and community.

"Standing in the river, you look upstream to the future and downstream to the past, but healing happens when you focus on the present."

— Jim Faust, Founder & Adam's Dad

Adam’s Legacy

A Parachute for Others

Hi, I’m Jim Faust, a retired physician, avid fly fisherman, and—most importantly—Adam’s father. Adam’s life was a testament to resilience and generosity. After multiple surgeries left him in chronic pain, he was prescribed opioids like many others. What began as pain management, became a struggle for his life. In recovery for two years, Adam poured his entire being into helping others in crisis, even sacrificing a lucrative career in finance so he could dedicate himself fully to helping others.

On July 13, 2024, Adam passed away from an accidental overdose. Adam gave his parachute to someone else as he died the day after  he had saved another young person’s life. This was just one of many lives he had saved.

Fly fishing has been shown to ease anxiety, alleviate depression, improve sleep, and bring renewed presence, peace, and purpose. I’ve witnessed firsthand the soothing and restorative power of fly fishing throughout my many years on the water, and through groundbreaking research in my field. Standing in a river urges you to focus on the here and now—letting go of the pain of the past and the fear of what lies ahead. By partnering with local programs—recovery centers, mental health clinics, hospitals, churches, schools, and more—we share this transformative experience, working directly with recovering individuals and  the people that support them. Together, we offer hands-on instruction in casting, knot-tying, and fly creation so participants can immerse themselves in nature’s healing beauty.

Adam believed in giving hope to anyone who felt lost. Through Adams Parachute, we carry his mission forward—offering help to those struggling, those in recovery, and the many people who tirelessly support them. If you or someone you know could benefit, please call me at +1 (508) 341-5795.

Like a parachute softening our descent and a river carrying us onward, I invite you to join me in the gentle currents of Adam’s legacy, where hope flows and healing begins.
