Fly tying lessons

A hands-on introduction to mindfulness, creativity, and connection through the art of tying flies

Our Fly Tying Lessons are free, structured group sessions designed to support recovery, healing, and community through the mindful art of fly creation. These lessons can be taught year-round and include all equipment and materials—no experience or gear needed.

Beyond learning how to tie flies, participants engage in a calm, focused activity that encourages present-moment awareness, patience, and shared conversation in a supportive group setting. Sessions also introduce related basics such as simple knot-tying and an understanding of how flies function on the water, making this a welcoming entry point into the broader world of fly fishing.

We had the privilege of teaching fly tying to many groups in 2025. Here’s what clients had to say.

“Jim and his team do an amazing job providing a space where clients can bond and express their creativity—something many haven’t done since entering recovery.”

“Clients get so excited when Jim is scheduled. Learning to tie fishing knots and complete a project gives them pride and a sense of accomplishment. It opens their eyes to new possibilities and joy in life.”
